Landscapes

"Landscape I". 11" x 14" Alcohol Ink & Collage. (2016).

This piece arose from my desire to reuse pieces of alcohol ink work that had great colors but did not turn out as well as I'd liked.
"Mountains I". Alcohol Ink. 10" x 10" (2015).

This piece is relatively small (about 10" x 10") and was created using a plastic trowel to push the ink around before it dried.

"Everest". Alcohol Ink. 9" x 12" (2015).

I've long been fascinated by mountain climbing, and I'm guessing that this one emerged from a re-reading of "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer.
"Floods". Alcohol Ink and Collage. 20" x 30" (2019). This elaborate piece was created using cuttings from existing alcohol ink works that didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped. Notice that some elements are three dimensional, height is produced by gluing small chunk of styro-foam under particular elements. This was made in the wake of devastating floods in Nebraska in the spring of 2019.

"Volcanic Islands". Alcohol Ink and Collage. 11" x 14" (2017). Similar to "Floods" piece, this was produced from older works.
"Dunes". Chalk Pastel. 11" x 14" (2015). This older piece was a more conventional attempt at landscapes.

"Beach". Alcohol Ink. 10" x 24" (2016). This piece was produced very quickly using alcohol ink and a coarse brush. For those who haven't worked with it, AI dries very quickly - and even quicker if you

"Inlet". 9" x 12". (2021). Alcohol ink with moto acrylic pens. This was an interesting piece and took several days; at first I wasn't sure what it was, but then began to outline the landforms and then to add the trees and other plans. The last step: adding the fishing boats, fish, and walking paths. A final spray of varnish was added which made some of the fish "run" a bit.
