"Coral". Alcohol Ink collage. 15" x 19" (2019)
"Passion". Oil Pastel and Pastel Pencil. 12" x 18" (2015)
"Undersea". Alcohol Ink collage. 15" x 19" (2019)
Both of these pieces are 3 dimensional collages - the heights of some elements were achieved by the tedious insertion of dozens of tiny styrofoam chips under the sprigs and shapes of alcohol ink cut-outs.

"One of His Moods". Chalk pastel. 18" x 24" (2014).
"System". Pen & Ink, Oil Pastels, Alcohol Ink. 11" x 14" (February 2020).

These two are quite different and were departures in some ways. The first one is very angry (pretty obviously) which is usually not where my work comes from, so analyze that (ha).

"Fortress of Solitude". Styrene, Spray Paint, and modeling "veg". ( March 2020)
"Mountains of Solitude". Styrene & Spray paint. (March 2020).

The inspiration for these experiments was two-fold. First, I watch a lot of Adam Savage "Tested" videos - and in one, he extolled the value of styrene - a plastic substance with a uniform molecular structure that is ideal for model making. In sum, you can score it, snap it, and then glue it together and paint it. Great stuff. The second was the isolation of March and April. Both are around a foot at the base and perhaps 12-14" high.

'"Room". Pen & Ink; Alcohol Ink. 10" x 10" (2016)
"Door with Stars". Pen & Ink; Alcohol Ink. 12" x 12" (2016)
I was on a door and/or room kick for a hot second in 2016. It was fun while it lasted, but then I drifted into a pattern that sometimes bedevils me: the attempt to refine a particular approach to the nth degree - which is no fun for me.

"America". Oil sticks, oil pastels, stickers. 26.5" x 40" (April 2020).
This is perhaps the only overtly political piece here, but didn't start out as such. I had watched a documentary on Basquiat, and noticed that he used oil sticks - I'd never seen them and was intrigued. They sat in a box until March (2020). My thought was to do Mondrian-like piece, but it became apparent that oil sticks do not offer the control needed to produce such detail. I reverted to intuition and speed. In the midst of this, I notice that it was flag-like and worked to bring out that image. To me, it's a reflection of the sad state of this year for us as a people.
